Phnom Penh: As MMA is included in the 2026 Asian Games and the 3rd Asian Youth Games in Bahrain in October 2025, Mr. Gordon Tang, Vice President of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) and Vice President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), has sponsored to five top MMA athletes of Cambodia to train for a full year in China to strengthen their skills in preparation for various international competitions, especially the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
Before spending money to send 5 MMA athletes of Cambodia to long-term training in China, Mr. Gordon Tang had also sponsored a number of Cambodia national sports teams, such as gymnastics, fencing, and weightlifting, for 6 athletes to train in China in 2024. This investment had showed about his strong commitment to help and strengthen the quality of sports sector in Cambodia as like as to support the Cambodia Olympic Movement.
H.E. Vath Chamroeun, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, stated at the recent congress that, “The best leadership of Mr. Gordon Tang, in ensuring to include MMA in the 2026 Asian Games, along with sponsoring to five top MMA athletes to train rigorously in China, will not only help their medal chances, but also help raise Cambodia’s profile on the international stage”. “This investment in Cambodia’s MMA sector has confirmed about Mr. Gordon Tang’s commitment to improving the national sports infrastructure and promoting the ancient Khmer martial arts to be more widely known in the world.”
Mr. Gordon Tang’s support is in line with the national strategy of Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet Prime Minister, in developing Cambodia’s sports sector and promoting the ancient Khmer martial arts. Mr. Gordon Tang also collaborated with the government to organize the 2nd Asian MMA Championship in Cambodia, which was a resounding success, with Cambodia won 1 gold, 5 silver and 9 bronze medals as the host.
At the same time, Mr. Gordon Tang also promised to support Cambodia in organizing the 2029 Asian Youth Games as Cambodia will host, by deciding to let Cambodia will become a key platform for organizing the major sporting events and encouraging Khmer youth to have the heart strength in achieving the honors on their own motherland.
