(Phnom Penh): Stated at the closing ceremony of the 4th National Games and the 2nd National Para Games 2024 on Friday evening at the National Stadium (Olympic), H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister, highest representative of Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, said that Cambodia has the ambition to host the Asian Youth Games 2029 with warmth, good hospitality and good service to all sports delegates and national and international guests, just like when Cambodia hosted the 32nd SEA Games and the 12th ASEAN Para Games in 2023.
His Excellency continued that, “As the host, Cambodia has the ambition to welcome national and international guests with warmth, good hospitality and good service for all sports delegates and national and international guests to get the best experience in participating in the Asian Youth Games 2029 in Cambodia, just as Cambodia has been recognized from all circles when Cambodia hosted the 32nd SEA Games and the 12th ASEAN Para Games in 2023.”-
“In this regard, I would like to highly appreciate the review of the competition standards that H.E. Vath Chamroeun mentioned and would like to propose the measures to continue strengthening our National Sports Federation so that our national sports have a strong capacity in organizing the competition. Strengthening the training so that our athletes are able to compete at the national with regional and international levels.”
It should also be known that: The 4th National Games and the 2nd National Para Games began from October 29 to November 8, 2024, with more than 5,000 delegates and athletes from 3 ministries and 25 capitals and provinces competing in 36 sports in the 4th National Games and there are 7 sports in the 2nd National Para Games, in 5 major locations, such as Phnom Penh, Preah Sihanouk Province, Kep Province, Kampong Chhnang Province, and Svay Rieng Province.
As a result of the combined technique for the 4th National Games, all athletes from ministries and capitals and provinces participating in the competition won medals, but the Ministry of Interior defended, its position with the most medals, a total of 248 medals (127 gold medals, 72 silver medals and 49 bronze medals), while the Ministry of National Defense ranked second with a total of 188 medals (91 gold medals, 56 silver medals and 41 bronze medals), and the Ministry of Economy and Finance ranked third with a total of 49 medals (19 gold medals, 14 silver medals and 16 bronze medals).
As for the medal table of the 2nd National Para Games, among 28 participating ministries and capitals and provinces, there are only 17 capitals and provinces won medals, while 11 ministries and capitals and provinces did not win any medals. For the team that won the most medals, such as Kandal province won a total of 40 medals (14 gold medals, 9 silver medals and 17 bronze medals), Takeo province ranked second with a total of 15 medals (10 gold medals, 1 silver medal and 4 bronze medals) and Kep province ranked third with a total of 14 medals (8 gold medals, 4 silver medals and 2 bronze medals).
