Phnom Penh: The National Badminton Championship 2024, supported by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, officially began in the morning of December 20, 2024 at the badminton court of the National Olympic Stadium.
H.E. Keo Ros, Secretary General of the Cambodia Badminton Federation, highlighted that: There are 14 clubs and badminton federation participated in the national badminton championship 2024, a decrease of 2 clubs if compared to the 2023 national championships. However, the participation of male and female players has increased, especially young people.
His Excellency the Secretary General said that the national badminton championships 2024 will be held for three days from December 20 to 22, 2024.
There are 7 disciplines include:
1- Men's Singles, 18 years and older (born before or in 2006)
2- Men's Singles, Under 18 (born after or in 2007)
3- Women's Singles, Under 18 (born after or in 2007)
4- Men's Doubles, 18 years and older (born before or in 2006)
5- Men's Doubles, Under 18 (born after or in 2007)
6- Women's Doubles, 18 years and older (born before or in 2006)
7- Mixed Doubles (regardless of age or event).
A total of 172 athletes, delegates and coaches were participated.
Mr. Lem Sina, Chairman of the Competition Commission, also stated that the National Badminton Championship 2024, the participating athletes have shown a significant increase in their abilities and skills. All of this is due to the introduction of the federation’s development strategy under the guidance of the President of the Cambodia Badminton Federation, H.E. Ly Kosal, Secretary of State of the Ministry of National Defense, which has inspired clubs and badminton federation by continuously training coaches in the capital and provinces, which has made the players grow up in both quantity and technical quality.
The Chairman of the above Commission also emphasized that: For the National Championship 2024, the Federation has put the competing disciplines more focused on young players than older players because the Federation wants to train young players to prepare for future national and international competitions, such as the SEA Games and the Asian Youth Games, which Cambodia will host.
Please note that: The National Badminton Championship 2024 The large number of youth under 18 years old is getting high if compared to previous national championships. All of this is the federation's strategy to provide opportunities for young male and female athletes to compete and express their abilities, to develop to be the potential athletes and ready to compete on the international stage.
