The National Boxing Championship this year increased the quality of both national team and clubs, which is a good sign of preparation for the SEA Games

(Phnom Penh): The National Boxing Championship 2024 has ended successfully after a four-day competition from December 23 to 26, 2024 at the Dombol Touk Hall of the Royal University of Phnom Penh, with the Ministry of Interior Club winning the most medals, while the Secretary General of the Boxing Federation highly appreciated the increase of quality of both national team and clubs.

 

Speaking after the end of this year’s competition, H.E. Buy Sophoan, Secretary General of the Cambodian Boxing Federation, highly appreciated the great success of organizing of the national boxing championship 2024, as the number of participating athletes and clubs increased by 50%, and the Federation also provided the sponsorship to more winning athletes and clubs. Especially, the opening of a new page provides opportunities for young athletes to participate in the competition.

H.E. Secretary General continued that: Through the past four days of competition, both the national team and athletes from associations/clubs have shown their good results, which is a positive sign in response to the federation's strategic plan in preparing for the SEA Games 2025 in Thailand, as well as strengthening the young athletes academy in preparation for hosting the 4th Asian Youth Games in 2029.

His Excellency confirmed that: "For the achievements of this national championship, not only the national team won medals, but also athletes from associations/clubs showed their good results. In fact, in the finals, there were both national team and athletes from clubs, which is a good sign of participation as well as the quality of the championship preparation to focus and strengthen the ability to prepare for the SEA Games 2025."

H.E. Secretary General of the Federation added that after selecting the best athletes resources of this year's competition, the Federation will gather training and hope that the athletes will work hard to maintain the SEA Games medal record like when Cambodia hosted in the Sea Games 2023, while Cambodia Boxing won a total of 9 medals (1 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze). Therefore, His Excellency Secretary General hopes that, the Sea Games 2025 in Thailand, Cambodia will be able to maintain this record.

Please note that: The above national championship had 145 athletes from 30 associations/clubs, capitals, provinces and 3 ministries participating, with increase of 50% if compared to last year. For the technical results, the Ministry of Interior won the most medals as a total of 5 gold medals, while the Ministry of National Defense ranked second, winning 3 gold medals and 4 silver medals, a total of 7 medals. The Artillery Command Club ranked third, winning 2 gold medals, 1 silver and 4 bronze medals. Kampong Chhnang Provincial Club ranked 4th, winning 1 gold and 1 bronze medal, and Anlong Phum Meanchey Club ranked 5th, winning 1 gold medal.
