The Cambodia Badminton Federation on Tuesday sent a youth team to compete in the Badminton Asia Southeast Asia Regional Junior Championships 2024 in Laos which will take place from May 22 to 26.

The Cambodia Badminton Federation's Secretary General, Lieutenant General Cheam Sophea, stated that the team consists of four men and four women, directed by two coaches. This is the second time the Cambodian Badminton Team has participated in this competition. The National Team made its debut appearance in Cambodia, where it won one gold, six silver, and seven bronze medals.

The U15 and U17 categories will be contested by five countries at the 2024 competition: hosts Laos, Timor-Leste, Myanmar, Brunei, and Cambodia.

Although some of the players are new this year, the Cambodia Badminton Federation intends to repeat its success from last year, to win two gold medals.

“The eight athletes' current training has been excellent in terms of strength and technical ability. The South Korean coach who works with the federation frequently puts the players in competitions to assess their capacity to address specific faults,” he said.

It is worth noting that the Cambodia Badminton Federation intends to host the Southeast Asian Youth Badminton Championship again in 2025.
