(Phnom Penh): In the Congress of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) yesterday urged the national sports federations, especially sports that have been included in the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand, to continue to strive not to lose their sporting qualities and toward competing well, even though the medals may differ from the results when Cambodia hosted the SEA Games.

H.E. Vath Chamroeun, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), stated that: In preparing for the 33rd SEA Games in 2025, Thailand will host the SEA Games after Cambodia. The national federations and Cambodia athletes are preparing to work hard to maintain the national honor, even though the results of the SEA Games later this year may differ from the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia.

His Excellency continued: The results we expect to come out of the SEA Games in Thailand later this year cannot be the same as our results when we hosted, because some sports were not included by the host Thailand, and the organization of the competition in their territory is not the same as in ours. So there are many factors that make us to conclude that it will not the same us hosting the Games.”

H.E. Vath Chamroeun added that: “However, the Congress has urged all federations to make efforts to prepare for this participation and to try not to lose their sporting qualities, must try and work hard together to prepare athletes, preparing training plans and preparing competition plans in the SEA Games to be better.”

It should be noted that, the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand will be held from 9 to 20 December 2025, with the host country Thailand deciding to select 50 sports for competition. In the 32nd SEA Games 2023 in Cambodia, Cambodia athletes won a total of 282 medals (81 gold, 74 silver and 127 bronze), which is a remarkable achievement in the history of this biennial regional event.
