Koji Gyotoku took over as the interim head coach of the Cambodian national football team on Friday, September 13, following the dismissal of Felix Gonzalez Dalmas by the Football Federation of Cambodia.
Three days following the Blue Bulls' elimination from the AFC Asian Cup qualifying round due to penalties against Sri Lanka.
Under Felix, who took office once more in March 2023, Cambodia was knocked out by Pakistan in October of the previous year from the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifying round.
From 2018 to 2020, Felix, the head coach of the national team, guided the Cambodian U23 team to a fourth-place finish and the SEA Games semifinals while Keisuke Honda was the general manager in 2019.
Felix's temporary replacement, Koji, assumed leadership of the 2019 Bati National Football School and the Cambodian U17 national team. He guided the Cambodian U18 team to victory over the Vietnamese U18 team in the 2019 Southeast Asian U18 Championship. He also led the Cambodian U19 team to victory over the Thai U19 team in the AFC Qualifiers in the U20 Asian Cup Championship 2020.
The event was called off because of the COVID-19 problem, even though the Cambodian U20 team had advanced to the finals in October, Cambodia's national football team participated in two international friendlies: one against Chinese Taipei at home and another in Hong Kong.
