Phnom Penh: Cambodia will host the First time of the Para-Bowling Championship to open for 7 days from 21 to 27 June 2024, with the participation of 10 countries in Asia as like as Thailand, China, China Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, India, Malaysia, CZECH REPUBLIC, Philippines and Cambodia with a total of 142 delegates, coaches and athletes. This was confirmed by Mr. Chhay Kiek, Secretary General of the Bowling Federation of Cambodia in a press conference in the afternoon of June 15, 2024 at the Techo Sen Center.
The Secretary General emphasized that: This International Competition was organized with four main purposes: Purpose 1, is to promote bowling in Cambodia, purpose 2, to show preparing of our Cambodia athletes for the 13th ASEAN Para Games 2025 in Thailand. Purpose 3, linking of friendship and solidarity between Cambodia with other countries in Asia and the purpose 4, encouraging to Cambodia Para athletes to participate in the competition with foreign players to show their talents and develop themselves.
The Secretary-General expects that: This international competition, which is the first time that Cambodia has organized, Cambodia Para Athletes, will be able to win a medal for Cambodia, even though Cambodia has only a short training period, while Assessment from the international bowling experts who visited Cambodia said that they have the sufficient capacity and develops its ability quickly.
Mr. Yi Sopheaktra, Deputy Secretary-General of the National Paralympic Committee of Cambodia, said that: The First International Para Bowling Games provided an opportunity for Cambodia Para Athletes to gain experience and capacity building for the 13th ASEAN Para Games 2025 in Thailand in the future. He considered the hosting for the first time of the Bowling Sport and promoting the young disabled athletes to train bowling for the Asian Youth Para Games 2029, which hosted by Cambodia.
A female player Thoeun Kanhara, a candidate preparing to compete for the Cambodia team, expressed her determination to compete to the best of her ability to show that despite her disability, she could play bowling and win medals for Cambodia.
