Phnom Penh: As the national traditional Khmer New Year will be coming soon, the Federation also encourages physical education and sports teachers and tug of war teachers who have been trained by the Federation to participate in creating the tug of war games in schools and pagodas as a contribution to the development and preservation of tug of war games in the goal to urge for participation from the public of all classes to be more and more, to support the Khmer national identity sport.
Mr. Chap Ratana, Secretary General of the Cambodia Tug of War Federation, has told reporters by Telegram that, in 2025, the Cambodia Tug of War Federation has a plan to preserve and develop the tug of war games by organizing the major competitions at three levels, including primary school, secondary school and university levels, to inspire and refine the resources of good male and female athletes to prepare for participation in the international competitions.
Mr. Secretary General added that, for the direction of participating in overseas competitions, the Federation also plans to participate in two major events in 2025, namely the event of the annual championship selection competition which organized by Malaysia and the 33rd SEA Games hosted by Thailand at the end of 2025. For the disciplines that are being selected through the organization of the annual national championships, there are two disciplines, including 8 persons of men and women, and 4 persons of men and women disciplines.
Please note that, this is the 10th year that Cambodia’s tug-of-war game has been inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in Windhoek, Namibia, by the Intergovernmental Commission of UNESCO on December 2, 2015.
