As of now, nearly 5,000 people have registered to participate in the 2025 Phnom Penh International Half Marathon, which will take place on Sunday, June 15. This was stated by H.E. Vath Chamroeun, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, during a press conference in the morning of Monday, June 9.
Among the registrants, Cambodian runners has the largest number, followed by participants from China, Japan, and France. H.E. Vath Chamroeun emphasized that the number of registrations this year shows a remarkable increase, while in 2024, there were over 4,100 participants.
What is also noting is that the starting and finishing points will be relocated from in front of the Royal Palace to in front of Wat Botum Vatei Park. This change is due to preparations for many major national events that will take place near the Royal Palace. Additionally, more roads will be set up to ensure better safety.
Mr. Sem Phalla, Chairman of the Marathon Organizing Commission, said that the race will have 21 km, 10 km, 5 km, and 2.5 km for families with parents and young children. The 2.5 km race will also have prizes for the winners. But only for children under 12 years old as an incentive.
Mr. Sem Phalla also emphasized that, the Phnom Penh International Half Marathon will be closely monitored by the International Marathon Committee, because Cambodia is one of the 112 member countries. Therefore, he called for more participation in promoting this international event.
H.E. Vath Chamroeun also reminded that, the Phnom Penh International Half Marathon is held to celebrate the Queen Mother’s Birthday Norodom Monineath Sihanouk. The Royal Mother of Khmer Nation in freedom, dignity, and happiness, and to seek support for Kantha Bopha Hospital as well as several other charitable organizations.
