(Phnom Penh): H.E. Neth Pheaktra, Minister of the Ministry of Information, expressed his support for providing the opportunities for young people to participate in the National Kun Khmer Championship to increase the number of outstanding athletes and to continue to train more and more, as well as cultivate a love for the Khmer ancient martial arts that is more alive.
This emphasizing was made at the closing ceremony of Competition of the National Kun Khmer Championship 2024 after a successful 4-day competition from February 17-20, 2025 in Kampong Chhnang Province. This is the first year that the federation has focused on young people under 18 years of age to participate in this annual event.
H.E. Neth Pheaktra said that, “This competition is also showed for various projects of Kun Khmer and makes it livelier, and cultivates a sense of love for invaluable ancestral heritage and participate in its preservation and development for the last generations to come. The Royal Government of Cambodia, in all circumstances, led by Samdech Techo Hun Sen in the past and present and now led by Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has always paid great attention to promoting the Khmer ancient martial arts, which are the heritage of Khmer ancestors.
At the same time, H.E. Khov Chhay, President of the Kun Khmer Federation, stated that: This is a campaign to build human resources at the grassroots level to continue the sustainability and maintain the quality of the sport, making the Kun Khmer still a potential and the leading sport in Cambodia, as well as international competitions both at home and abroad, especially allowing the young Kun Khmer athletes to show their talents and strengthen the techniques that they have trained in the past, in order to ensure that the competition is based on the spirit of sports, respects the rules and technical standards correctly, with good ethics, and we start from this level.
For the competition of the National Kun Khmer Championship this year, there are 15 Kun Khmer Associations, ministries, capitals, and provinces have registered to participate, including a total of 139 male and female athletes competing in 16 disciplines. As a technical result, the Ministry of National Defense won the most medals, including 7 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 1 bronze medal, for a total of 10 medals.
The Ministry of Interior ranked second, winning 2 gold, 2 silver and 6 bronze medals, a total of 10 medals. Battambang Province ranked third, winning 2 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals, a total of 7 medals. Banteay Meanchey Province ranked fourth, winning 2 gold, 1 silver and 5 bronze medals, a total of 8 medals. Svay Rieng Province ranked fifth, winning 1 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals, a total of 5 medals. Prey Veng Province won 1 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medal, a total of 4 medals. Siem Reap Province won 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals, and a total of 4 medals.
