Malaysia Refuses To Host 2026 Commonwealth Games

Malaysia: The Malaysia Government said on Friday of March 22 to refuse the hosting of the Commonwealth Games 2026 due to the cost of spending which is seen as an outdated sporting event by some comments. This is according to the government statement and published by CNA on March 23, 2024.

According to a statement from Minister Hannah Yeoh said that: The Ministry of Youth and Sports has announced the government's decision is not to accept the Offer of the Commonwealth Sports Federation (CGF) to host the Commonwealth Games. 2026.

The decision was made in the meeting of cabinet that conducted by the Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim after removing the Victoria State of Australia in 2023 after a decision in 2022

The CGF is currently trying to find the host country for the event after Victoria withdrew in July 2023 due to the cost, while the federation has offered to Malaysia and other potential host countries with the budget of 100 million pound which approximately ($ 125 million) to replace Victoria. 

In the 2022 Commonwealth Games was in the United Kingdom, which has 74 countries participated with 5,054 athletes in 280 disciplines and in 20 sports, that is a multi-sport event, since 1930, equal with the FIFA World Cup.
