Phnom Penh: In 2025, the Cambodian tennis team will compete in the 2025 DAVIS CUP Asia/Oceania Group 3 in Da Nang province, Vietnam, which will officially begin on July 12, 2025.
Mr. Tep Rithy Wit, Secretary General of the Cambodia Tennis Federation, stated that Cambodia is ready for the 2025 DAVIS CUP Group 3 to be held in Vietnam in July. Currently, players are actively training with coaches on the tennis court at the National Stadium.
The Secretary General highlighted that, in the 2025 DAVIS CUP, Cambodia has set a goal of staying in Group 3, while Group 3 is made up of strong teams that have dropped out of Group 2. He said that in the 2025 DAVIS CUP Group 3, which Vietnam hosts, among the 10 participating countries, only Cambodia and Singapore are ranked lowest. However, we are working hard to maintain our place in Group 3.
The Secretary General of the Tennis Federation said that, there are 4 players competing in the above event, but all 4 are new national players, who selected from the grassroots team who have never participated in this event. The reason why the Federation did not include older players is because of some problems such as Cambodia's best player Leng Sarinreach is continuing his studies in the United States, which is difficult to come and go back due to the new restrictions in the United States, while Bun Kenny, a veteran player who has helped Cambodia many times to group 3, and now he has been asked to retire due to age and many injuries, while some other players are taking time to train and prepare to participate in the SEA Games in Thailand in December 2025. He said that the reason why he sent only young new players to participate, is to take this opportunity to strengthen their experience and techniques so that they can adapt to the international competition.
