Cambodia prepares 38 to 39 sports for the SEA Games 2025 while it has 50 sports

According to the meeting of the Southeast Asian Sports Council in Bangkok, Thailand on Friday, October 25, 2024, it was decided to select 50 sports for the SEA Games 2025 which hosted by Thailand. This is according to H.E. Vath Chamroeun, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, said.

H.E. Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia added that: The 50 sports are divided into 569 disciplines, and out of the 50 sports, there are 3 sports are demonstration. Meanwhile, Cambodia has 38 to 39 sports that must be prepared to participate. 

 Among the sports that Cambodia will participate in are potential sports such as jujitsu, triathlon, petanque, jetski, taekwondo, karate and wrestling, with the exception of vovinam. 

H.E. Vath Chamroeun emphasized that: According to the rules of the SEA Games, the host determines the disciplines, but the sports must be approved by the member countries. But the Thai host initially eliminated some disciplines, but after protests, the host decided to put it back. In fact, Cambodia has successfully protested for individual disciplines in triathlon.  

It should be noted that the SEA Games 2025 will take place from December 9 to 20.
