Cambodia women’s national football team coach expressed satisfaction with 1-0 victory over Guam last night

Conor Nestor, coach of the Cambodia women’s national football team, expressed satisfaction with the 1-0 victory over Guam in an international friendly match on Wednesday night at the National (Olympic) Stadium in Phnom Penh, especially the Cambodia female players’ style of play and management.

For the first international friendly match in Cambodia, the Cambodia women’s football team really showed surprising quality of play, and just within 15 minutes, they scored a goal against the visitors through Soeun Vipha. They then continued to control the ball with pressure until they had several more opportunities to score, but failed.

After the match, Conor said, “I am really pleased with today’s result. As I said in the press conference, I came here to continue what the previous team has done. I discussed with the president of Boeung Ket (Ms. Puth Thida) and assistant coach Khuon Laboravi. As we have clearly seen, this match, his team playing style of managing the match. So I am satisfied with today's result."

Through the victory over the team ranked 97th of the world women's football rankings, while the Cambodia women's football team is ranked 118th, he expects to add more confidence to the team, as they have shown their confidence from the gathering to this friendly match. However, apart from motivating the Cambodia female players, there are also some shortcomings that need to be corrected in order to prepare for the official match ahead. 

It should be noted that, after the above international friendly match, the Cambodia women's national team will host the AFC Women's Asian Cup Australia 2026 qualifiers, Group G, with Cambodia is facing the women's football teams of Hong Kong, Philippines and Saudi Arabia from June 29 to July 5, 2025 at the National (Olympic) Stadium in Phnom Penh. Therefore, it is hoped that fans will attend this official match in large numbers to be a source of strength for the Cambodia women's football team.
