Cambodia Signs On MOU To Bring Cambodian Athletes From The US To The National Team

Phnom Penh: Stated in signing on the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Cambodia Sports Association in the United States at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports in the morning of March 28, 2024, HE Vath Chamroeun, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, representative of His Excellency Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and The Minister of Education, Youth and Sports said that: This is an official agreement which represented by the parties who signing in a joint effort to determine procedures, processes and goals between the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Cambodia Sports Association in United States

The purpose of this Memorandum of Understanding is to promote the participation and development of sports, as well as the exchange of coaches and athletes between the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the Cambodia Sports Association in the United States. His Excellency emphasized that: The cooperation activities of the two parties will work together to expand the potential of both sides to build trust, cooperation and necessary activities in order to further promote the level of quality of Cambodia sports in the national and international competitions.

His Excellency, Secretary of State also affirmed that: In the past, two parties have been cooperating for a long time with the success of bringing the Khmer athletes in the United States as like as a basketball player and a Jiu-Jitsu female player Khan Jessa came to help compete in the SEA Games and Asian Games. Just only during that time we did not reach the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, but now, the Memorandum of Understanding between the two parties has officially announced, and that is the Royal Government's policy to open up to Khmer blood players abroad to join the Cambodia national team. 

The Secretary of State added that: This (MOU) has conditions for bringing Khmer blood athletes into the national team and needing to test with local players in order to select good quality players to represent Cambodia in the competition on the international stage. With the transfer of Cambodia athletes to the Cambodia Sports Association in the United States, such as sending coaches, technical officers and athletes to study and practice in order to increase knowledge, experience, diplomatic relations between people-to-people, sports and sports, especially to promotion the sports in the United States.

His Excellency continued that: This MOU aims to officially open the wider promote to the Khmer blood people live in abroad as well. And it is one of the aims of creating a harmonization in sports and working together equally and seeking the development and progress. Cambodian athletes in the United States, who can represent for Cambodia in the other international events, must test first with local players before qualifying for the national team, such as team sports and combating sports.

But for sports that measure ability by time or length as a measure, do not have to test in Cambodia, just know how technically he did in the United States, with real information will be a representative of Cambodia on the international stage. Please note that the Memorandum of Understanding between the two parties is valid from April 1, 2024 to April 31, 2027.
