Phnom Penh: H.E. Vath Chamroeun highlighted that, on behalf of H.E. Dr. Senior Minister Thong Khon, President of NOCC, he has received a donation for refugees of the war from the Olympic Refugees Foundations, a special project of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). By the two international organizations examined this reasons very clearly, not just giving it away, before deciding to provide humanitarian aid to Cambodia.

This was highlighted by His Excellency the Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia on the occasion of receiving donations from the IOC and OCA for refugees of the war in the evening of December 25, 2025 at the NOCC headquarters.

His Excellency the Secretary General added that, giving the donations to refugees of the war of IOC and OCA was made in accordance with the principles of the MOU signed with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for any countries which has war or other major disasters, just they give such charitable donations are made with the aim of contributing to the United Nations to alleviate the burden and suffering and continue to encourage refugees, youth and children to have the right to live, learn and play sports.

The donations which received directly from the International Olympic Movement and the Asian Movement for Cambodian refugees of the war, such as including rice, books, many other educational materials, sports equipment, including several tons of medical kits.

H.E. Vath Chamroeun explained that: “Even though refugees have been displaced from their homes, they have the right to play sports. They cannot be denied their right to play sports, because among the refugees there are also athletes in that.

So we can see the spirit in which we have received the donations from the IOC and OCA now is to give to the Cambodian refugees of the war, because they have been seen that the war that has been happening from this invasion, is that the world Olympic movement has recognized that Cambodia as a victim. This is an important point that is a spiritual aid in providing justice for our Cambodian refugees of the war and we are indeed victims of the war of aggression.”

“Therefore, on behalf of the Cambodia Olympic Movement and the National Sports Federations, we still stand on the humanitarian spirit and call for to end the war of aggression that has caused an increase of refugees of the war and the terrible tragedy.

For the project of distributing these donations, it will be divided into two parts, one of which will be distributed to the refugees of the war in Oddar Meanchey province and another large part, including a budget of 8 million riel, will be donated through the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, which is an institution representing the Royal Government, and will be distributed to the refugees who are teachers and students for educational activities related to sports as well.”
