The Competition of the 2025 National Boxing Championship has concluded after a four-day competition from December 23-26 at the Royal University of Phnom Penh with received the great success in terms of quantity, technical quality and charity fund. This was stated by H.E. Buy Sophoan, President of the Cambodia Boxing Federation.

Speaking to reporters after the closing ceremony of the annual competition, His Excellency said that this year, the number of athletes and associations/clubs participating has increased, although some athletes and clubs along the border were unable to participate because of, they had to flee away due to the Thai invasion. However, His Excellency also hopes that they will be safe and continue their sports activities in preparation for next year's competition.

His Excellency continued that, “Regarding the quality of this year’s competition, we observed that all the athletes have shown good results and have improved compared to last year. In that, by watching the finals, they had a very tough competition. Some athletes were not the national team but won medals, and some players who from the clubs are also won medals. This has confirmed that the achievement is progressive of the development of boxing in Cambodia.”

Another interesting thing is that the including of the first junior disciplines not only had a large participation, but the junior players also showed attractive skills and techniques. Therefore, in accordance with the principles of the Federation and the Ministry of Education, the winners from number 1 to 3, the federation will hold a meeting to review the candidates for the national team next year. His Excellency hopes that all the medalists will become the national resources to improve their skills and techniques in preparation for international competitions, especially the Asian Games and Asian Indoor Games in 2026.

By the way, the Boxing Fund, which the Federation has established to help refugees of the war, has also received strong support. As of yesterday, the closing day, the Federation had raised a total of 12 million riel from the fund and shirt sales. This is the exceeding number that the Federation had expected, which was 10 million riels. The Federation will use the funds to prepare such as food and using materials to help refugees of the war, through the Oddar Meanchey Provincial Administration Commission, and another part to help frontline army heroes in the near future.

It should be noted that, the competition of the 2025 National Boxing Championship had 142 male and female athletes from 23 associations/clubs participating in 13 weight categories. As a result, the Ministry of National Defense won the most medals, a total of 6 (4 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze), the Ministry of Interior came in second place, winning a total of 7 medals (4 gold, 3 bronze), the Ta Ley Darei Meanrith Club came in third place, winning 3 medals (1 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze), the Ta A Sam On Club and the Ponleur Thmey Keila Club came in fourth and fifth place, winning 1 gold and 1 bronze medal same each other, while the Vibol Darith Club of Khan Por Sen Chey and the Artillery Command Club each won 1 gold medal. In addition, many other clubs also won silver and bronze medals.
