H.E. Vath Chamroeun, who was recently elected as the President of the International Kun Khmer Federation, said that the Federation’s General Assembly on Thursday, February 12, 2026, showed a new direction by achieving integration and national unity, especially between national and international Kun Khmer.

His Excellency the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia added that, another major purpose is that the General Assembly urged to have unification among all members and demonstrated strength to the more than 60 member countries, becoming more confident in the goal of expanding the scope of Kun Khmer on the international stage even further, as well as towards participating in the Olympic Movement more quickly.

H.E. Vath Chamroeun continued that: “We have established a structure that is trustworthy and has good internal unity, is able to successfully accomplish its tasks, is free from controversy, has true national unity in Kun Khmer, and walking on the same way. Meanwhile, we have also prepared a close relationship and work together, and encourage all member countries to work better, with the confidence of our General Secretariat. Another important thing is that His Excellency Khov Chhay, President of the Kun Khmer Federation, has assumed the role of Secretary General of International Kun Khmer, which is processing works for the International Kun Khmer Federation. This is an important point. Secondly, we have expressed our gratitude to the former President, H.E. Dr. Miem Ra, who has been elevated to the position of Founding President and Honorary President of the International Kun Khmer Federation for life. He is the highest person who deserves respect from all member countries, because we know that Kun Khmer is our national identity.”

After receiving major countries such as Canada, France, the United States, China, and Australia as members of the International Kun Khmer Federation, H.E. Vath Chamroeun stated that, in the new mandate 2026/2030, the International Kun Khmer Federation will try to expand its membership to 75 countries that can promote Olympic recognition (IOC Recognition Member) before proceeding to apply for various procedures to become an Olympic sport. When major countries that are members of the International Kun Khmer Federation host the Olympics, they may be eligible to include it as a sport for the competition.
